7 in 11
Well, my Steelers are once again headed to the Superbowl. I really am surprised, and I did not see this at the beginning of the year. I love my Steelers, but it just seemed that as the season went on, they kept getting more and more banged up. I was thinking we were going to have Ward playing on the offensive line by the end of the season the way things were going. But, the thing about the steelers is, they may be the most beat up team in football right now, but they are still going to the big game. Now, scary thought, what if they were healthy? Hopefully the Superbowl break will give them a chance to get some fresh legs, and heal some of those wounds. If they can, I think they can handle the Packers easily. If not, it will be a close game. I do think they have what it takes though.

If this was a murder, you would be the prime suspect...
Does anyone else find it odd that the cowboys were doing atrocious on defense, then, as soon as they fire Wade Phillips and replace him with the defensive coordinator, presto chango, now they are playing great. Now, I'm not a Cowboys fan, but even from my Biased view, something seems off here. Why would the defense suddenly improve? better halftime speeches? Seriously? Replacing the coach shouldn't change the way players play, and it hasn't. Instead, now better plays are obviously being called, and this is the same guy that was calling them before. I'm just saying, to me, it seems suspicious. He eliminates the competition, then makes himself look good. we'll see what happens from here on out. maybe they are just getting lucky, or it's a flash in the pan.

Parity is boring
So I have been giving this whole "Parity" thing a lot of thought. I think parity is lousy. Imagine your favorite adventure move. The hero, a clean shaven guy with a boyish charm (picture Michael J. Fox) walks into the clean, brightly lit hotel lobby, and the villain, with no swagger or stubble, looking freshly shaved. clothes nice, dress casual. approaches the hero in a totally non threatening posture and they begin to have a heated discussion. Eventually, maybe someone gets slapped. and that is the most exciting scene in the movie. or ANY action adventure movie. Would you go watch action/adventure movies? Probably not. Now think of the Final scene from Willow (if you haven't seen it, well, I guess go watch it for reference) *huge spoiler on a like 20 year old movie here* The evil sorceress is trying to sacrifice the baby, she can cast lightning bolts, fling people around the room, you name it, she can do it, and out steps the dwarf with the baby. *poof!* He makes the baby disappear, Witch lady is so stunned, she accidentally triggers her huge horrible spell to send SOMEONE into oblivion, too bad it was on her. Next thing you know, movies over, they live happily ever after because a dwarf stood up the the seemingly all powerful Queen and did his disappearing pig trick. The point is, just because it looks like someone is going to win (remember the Pats and Giants super bowl?) It ain't over till it's ALL over and that is why you watch. Not because Goodell changes the rules on a week to week basis to try and keep things competitive. No one can do that except the players on the field. my favorite football moments came from when it seemed like a team was down and never gave up. never quit. not because someone called a retarded penalty to save face, or the commissioner tried to make players play flag football. Let the players play. Instead, how about a CBA that includes lifelong medical coverage for injuries incurred while with a team? Bet that would make players hit more carefully than all the threatened fines and suspensions in the world. Because then front office and coaching staff would care. On a side parity Note, While I am a life long Steelers fan, and all 6 have been in my lifetime, the best super bowl for me ever was seeing the Giants win, because it was such a non-parity game. As I like to say about movies, A hero is only as cool as his villain.

A football Blog
I keep not posting because I don't want to cross my football blogs with my regular blogs. Now I'm a double barreled blogger. Nothing fancy right now. as the season and off season go by, I will be posting all sorts of things like MY power rankings, why I'm at around 70% on picks for the season and the truth about whatever I think is the truth. all subject to my varied positions.
